To maintain healthy digestion, it is necessary to properly feed the bacteria in the intestines, said therapist Ekaterina Gavrilenko, reports the Telegram channel of the 2nd Moscow Infectious Diseases Hospital.

Gavrilenko recalled that about 2.5 live in the gastrointestinal tract of a healthy person thousands of different types of microorganisms.

“To maintain the intestinal flora in normal condition, it is important to feed beneficial bacteria! Prebiotics, which are found in bananas, apples, cereals, legumes and fermented milk products, can help with this,” said the therapist.

She also emphasized that healthy digestion is promoted by fiber (found in legumes, leafy greens, vegetables and fruits), boiled or stewed foods instead of fried and fatty foods, plenty of water and slow absorption of food without distraction.

“It’s not for nothing that they say that digestion begins in the mouth! This is because thoroughly crushed, chewed food is much easier for the intestines to absorb,” Gavrilenko noted.

The doctor added that physical activity also has a beneficial effect on the health of the gastrointestinal tract.
